Safety Tips
The University of Louisville Police Department reminds faculty, staff and students that there are plenty of simple actions everyone can take to reduce the chances of being the victim of a crime and to make walking, biking or driving in traffic a safer experience.
1
Call 911.
Call 911 for all emergencies needing Police, Fire or EMS.
2
If you see something, say something.
We need your help keeping campus safe. Call the University Police at 852-6111 to report suspicious activity.
3
Sign up for RAVE alerts.
We recommend that all students, faculty and staff sign up for the UofL RAVE Alert System for receiving text or email messages in case of an emergency on campus. Our text messaging service sends the most up-to-date information direct to your mobile device, including all weather cancellations.

Use the L-Trail.
Walk in groups or pairs. Stop and look before crossing any street or parking lot. Don’t be so consumed with your cell phone or music that you are not aware of your surroundings.
5
Get a safety escort.
CardCruiser is a free safety escort provided by ULPD for students and employees requesting a ride throughout campus between dusk and dawn. The most effective way to request a CardCruiser is by downloading the Card Armor App (free to download in the App Store and Google Play) and pushing the icon on the front page. You must also have Tripshot downloaded (free to download in the App Store and Google Play) for this feature to employ the required GPS tracking. You can also call ULPD for an escort at 502-852-6111.
6
Be responsible for yourself and your belongings.
Do not meet any unknown individual on or off campus to purchase or retrieve items. Always maintain control of your purse, backpack, laptop, cell phone and wallet. Remember that alcohol and drugs impair your system and leave you vulnerable to others and crime.
7
Always lock your vehicle.
Don’t leave items in view within your car. Store important valuables in the trunk or another secure location.
8
Lock your doors and windows.
Always lock your housing unit’s or office’s doors and windows. Know who is at the door before opening. Do not allow unapproved visitors into a locked building.
9
Obey all traffic laws.
If you’re riding a bicycle, be diligent about pedestrians and obey all traffic laws. Always lock your bicycle to a designated rack with a secure lock (we recommend a “U” lock).
10
Drive safely.
If you’re driving a vehicle, be extra considerate of pedestrians, bicycles and motorcycles. Remember that alcohol and drugs impair your system - plus, driving under the influence, no matter what the distance or time, is a serious crime.
